Mayor’s Office, City-County Council to Host Community Conversations Around Public Safety
INDIANAPOLIS – Today, Mayor Joe Hogsett and the Indianapolis City-County Council announced the first in a series of public meetings on public safety. The meeting comes after a couple weeks of soliciting public feedback from an online survey that launched in early July to determine the current state of public safety in Indianapolis. The survey is one component of the administration’s partnership with the NYU School of Law Criminal Justice Lab announced on June 15.
“We continue to listen to our residents on how they perceive public safety throughout their communities and the changes they are expecting,” said Mayor Hogsett. “These community conversations are our unceasing commitment to the mission in creating equitable and fair enforcement of the law and safer neighborhoods.”
The meeting will be held virtually to allow for broad participation and continued social distancing, in light of COVID-19. The conversation will include a first look at the initial survey results as well as data that has been gathered by the NYU School of Law Criminal Justice Lab. The session will offer opportunities for community input on policy and safety priorities, and create space for residents to share about their experiences.
The first session will be hosted by several members of the city-county council. Deputy Mayor Dr. David Hampton will serve as the emcee for the community conversation. More sessions will be announced later.
